Gone Too Soon

I was never a fan of MJ’s while he was alive, but this is one of the most tenderly beautiful songs I have ever heard…
Gone Too Soon

  1. For sure, that is one of the very best. I have always loved it.

wow... thanks Anon... for sharing that... I have been pondering how to respond ever since you left your comment. To be honest, I never anticipated that anyone would comment with such a personal connection...

I posted this video with great trepidation... because it has such a deeply personal connection to me... that I didn't want to share in this forum...

Loss is devastating... but after time... and more time... and a little more... and then some... we transcend the pain and experience something quite beautiful and tender.

I have cried each of the 20 some odd times I have now watched this video, but the tears are different from what they used to be - such a short time ago - it is much less about my own loss but more of an understanding, an empathy, a connection, a bond of shared experience, and an appreciation for the raw tenderness, for the incredibly beautiful expression of the emotion of loss that is expressed in this song... kind of happy/sad tears?

Pride is no doubt a celebration of victories... but also a celebration of the lives of all those we have lost... lovers, friends, parents, sisters, and brothers... each and every one... gone too soon.

In the heart of the gay community in Toronto there is an AIDS memorial wall... etched with thousands of names... and there are always a few sitting on the nearby benches slumped with the pain of loss... time has not yet transcended their pain to Yesterday... their loss is still Today.

My own experience is that Loss never seems to move past Yesterday... I've grown to appreciate that.
